Fossil Preparation
1. QUARRY
The Devonian is a geologic period and system of the Paleozoic. You then see the entrance of a quarry and how it could go very deep.
2. TRILOBITE IN THE QUARRY
Trilobite found in one layer of the quarry. It needs to be extracted.
3. ROCKS COLLECTED FROM A QUARRY
Rocks extracted from the quarries. It now needs to be carefully prepared
4. INSIDE THE ROCK
The rock is cut and we are able to see some evidences of trilobites inside. This now has to be extracted out of the rock.
5. EVIDENCE OF TRILOBITE INSIDE
Rough trilobites to be extracted.
6. ROUGH TRILOBITE
You can see the track (trace) of positive-negative faces of the trilobite.
8. WORKSHOP
7. GLUING THE ROCK
We now need to glue the two pieces back together in order to prepare the trilobites.
Typical local workshop where trilobites are prepared in the South of Morocco.
9. BEGINING OF THE TRILOBITE
Prepartion needs to be fine and precise, the work needs a magnifier. A trilobite might need from 10 to 100+ hours of work.
10. TOOLS
Depending on the work, if the trilobite is deep inside the rock we need a precutor with strong pressure of up to 8 bar.
11. PRECUTOR
12. WORKER in the WORKSHOP
When the trilobite is near to the surface it is another precutor that's needed with pressure between 2 and 3 bar
Before the development of proper modern tools and materials, trilobites were prepared with basic materials.
13. FINE PREPARATION
The hands of a worker with a
modern precutor.
14. FINAL RESULT
A very nice cornuproetus prepared
and ready for sell.
Our extended knowledge of the Moroccan Sahara and its diversified specimens allow us to have access to premium quality of fossils for both private & public collections. We are wholeseller with a workshop in Morroco.
